I saw this video posted over on Scott Williams’ blog, Big Is The New Small. The video is from Harvard Publishing and worth the seven minutes to view it. Here is a summary of what nine leaders think are the biggest mistakes a leader can make.

Bill George – Professor, Harvard Business School
Putting their self-interest ahead of the interests of the institution or organization they run.

Evan Wittenberg – Head of Global Leadership Development, Google, Inc.
Betraying trust.

Dr. Ellen Langer – Professor, Harvard University
Being certain.

Andrew Pettigrew – Professor, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford
To not live up to their own values.

Gianpiero Petriglieri – Affiliate Professor of Organizational Behavior, INSEAD
To be so overly enamoured with their vision that they lose all capacity for self-doubt (when the vision moves from passion to obsession).

Carl Sloane – Professor Emeritus, Harvard Business School
Personal arrogance & hubris.

Jonathan Doochin – Leadership Institute @ Harvard College
Acting too fast – executing before thinking through the issue.

Scott Snook – Associate Professor, Harvard Business School
Making it all about the leader & being  inconsistent, not authentic, lacking integrity.
